School Transformation and Public Policy Assistant




School Transformation and Public Policy Assistant: Reports to: Steve Kukic, Director of School Transformation and Laura Kaloi, Director of Public Policy
Team: School Transformation and Public Policy (Washington, DC Office)
Status: Full-time (exempt)

The Mission and Vision: The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) is a fast-paced, forward-thinking organization that is quickly growing. We work to improve the lives of all people with learning difficulties and disabilities by empowering parents, enabling young adults, transforming schools and creating policy and advocacy impact. We envision a society in which every individual who struggles to learn possesses the academic, social and emotional skills needed to succeed in school, at work and in life.

The PositionAs NCLD works to scale its successful Public Policy and Advocacy Impact and School Transformation work focused on protecting and strengthening the rights and opportunities of students while ensuring that school districts, principals and school teams have the tools, and resources they need to implement an evidence-based multi-tier system of supports so that all students can succeed in school- we will build a strong team to drive our work forward. The Program Assistant will work in NCLD’s Washington, DC office to ensure success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support to the School Transformation and Public Policy and Advocacy Teams
  • Draft and prepare communications as needed to support School Transformation and Public Policy efforts.
  • Reconcile financial reports.
  • Coordinate in-office meetings including lunches and support event planning such as hill briefings, coalition meetings and/or gatherings organized by NCLD in the DC area.
  • Oversee and maintain filing systems.
  • Support the process of developing and tracking contracts, invoices and other duties related to the implementation of the Leadership in Action Program and other ST programs
  • Provide office management assistance to the DC Office including ordering of supplies, management of office-related vendors and the development and creation of office-related promotional materials
  • Manage conference participation for NCLD’s DC Office and occasionally attend conferences and manage NCLD’s presence 
  • Support budgeting process by tracking costs related to core team activities.
  • Manage relationships with various consultants and vendors, including overseeing delivery of goods and services, and processing of invoices for payment.
  • Participate in planning for proposal development, as needed.
  • Create and update production schedules for content development (e.g. Basecamp)
  • Participate in reporting and reviewing of web metrics for email outreach, website visitors and social media


The Person:

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • High energy, dynamic individual, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple planned and unplanned projects. The ideal candidate is someone who takes the initiative to move projects forward and with good judgment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred and/or training that demonstrates an ability to accomplish clear goals, meet deadlines and organize personal time sufficient to work in a professional environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Excellent Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet research skills.
  • Stellar organization and attention to detail including the ability to manage several projects with deadlines at one time.
  • Ability to interact with public and professional audiences with tact and diplomacy. 
  • Flexible work style, positive attitude, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Two years of professional office experience preferred, but not required. (Nonprofit experience a plus, but not required.)
  • HTML and Photoshop experience a plus

Salary: commensurate with experience.
