Antecedent Behavior Consequence (ABC) Chart

Just as the school can observe and record your child's behavior at school, you can do the same at home. Take the journalist approach — answer questions, such as who, what, when, and where as they relate to your child's behavior. Don't forget, only record what you see and hear, not your interpretation of the behavior.

The Antecedent Behavior Consequence (ABC) Chart offers opportunities to note the setting, time and frequency behaviors occur, what happened just before the behavior, a description of the behavior itself, and the consequence of the behavior. By noting behaviors in this ABC Chart, you may be able to more accurately focus on the origin of undesirable behaviors.
