Letter from NCLD (LD News: December 2006)

Dear Supporters and Constituents,

This month we celebrate the voices of individuals with learning disabilities. To mark NCLD's 30th Anniversary, we have expanded our Art and Poetry Competition to include a much wider range of artistic expression. We are happy to accept any artwork from photographs to videos, essays and short stories, Web sites, blogs, and paintings -- anything representing a vision of hope or struggle in the world of an individual with LD.

We are pleased to offer a $500 grand prize for the outstanding work from each of the following age groups: Children (Ages 4-13), Teens (Ages 14-17), and Adults (Ages 18 and older). Additional selected submissions will be showcased on our Web site and at our 30th Anniversary benefit dinner in April.

In addition to this competition, we'd like to remind our readers of the approaching Anne Ford Scholarship deadline on December 31, 2006. The Anne Ford Scholarship is a $10,000 award given to a high school senior with an identified learning disability (LD) who is pursuing an undergraduate degree.  Every year we face the daunting task of selecting one winner out of the hundreds of applications we receive.

It is truly an honor to reward the accomplishments of individuals who work so hard to overcome and live successfully with their disabilities, and we look forward to sharing their work with you in the coming months.

Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season,

James H. Wendorf
