A Word from NCLD
NCLD's Executive Director, James Wendorf, announces the development of the Response to Intervention (RTI) Action Network, expected to launch in late spring of 2008, providing access to the resources needed to implement the essential components of RTI for the benefit of all children, including those who struggle to learn. 

What's New from NCLD

  • RTI Update: A Word with RTI Action Network Director, Dr. Kathleen Whitmire
    The National Center for Learning Disabilities will be launching the RTI (Response to Intervention) Action Network and its corresponding Web site in spring 2008.  Kathleen A. Whitmire, Ph.D. has joined NCLD as the director of the RTI Action Network. Dr. Whitmire is passionate about RTI and for the legacy of student success it promises.  LD News sat down with Dr. Whitmire to hear first-hand about how she was drawn to both NCLD and the RTI Action Network.
  • October LD Talk Transcript Now Available: "RTI Gets Promoted to Secondary Schools"
    Read the transcript from our October 22 LD Talk.  Experts Dr. Barbara Ehren and Dr. Kathleen Whitmire discussed the challenges and solutions for implementing Response to Intervention (RTI) at the secondary level, and shared strategies for bringing effective supports to adolescents through collaboration between educators and families.

LD Champions
Having a learning disability does not limit a person's ability to be expressive or creative.  Each month LD News spotlights the work of individuals with LD and features their art, essays, or other expressions of what life is like for individuals with LD.

This month, read an essay by 2007 Anne Ford Scholarship Honorable Mention, Leah Hamilton French where she discusses how she has learned to "accept and appreciate" her LD and looks to the future, to "spread awareness about learning disabilities and education" through film.
