ted_turner.jpgThroughout his career, Ted Turner has received recognition for his entrepreneurial acumen, sharp business skills, leadership qualities, and his unprecedented philanthropy.

Over the past four decades, Turner stepped into the international spotlight with one accomplishment after another. Whether in billboard advertisement, cable television, sports team ownership, sailing, environmental initiatives or philanthropy – Turner’s vision, determination, generosity and forthrightness have consistently given the world reason to take notice.

Turner is chairman of the Turner Foundation, Inc., which supports efforts for improving air and water quality, developing a sustainable energy future to protect our climate, safeguarding environmental health, maintaining wildlife habitat protection, and developing practices and policies to curb population growth rates; co-chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, which works to close the growing and increasingly dangerous gap between the threat from nuclear, chemical and biological weapons; chairman of the United Nations Foundation, which promotes a more peaceful, prosperous and just world; and a partner in the Ted's Montana Grill restaurant chain, which operates 52 locations nationwide.

Turner is also chairman of Turner Enterprises, Inc., a private company, which manages his business interests, land holdings and investments, including the oversight of two million acres in 12 states and in Argentina, and more than 45,000 bison head.

Turner recently launched a new business venture to provide clean power solutions through solar energy technology. Turner partnered with Dome-Tech Solar, a leading solar energy developer, based in Branchburg, New Jersey, to create DT Solar, a Turner Renewable Energy company. DT Solar focuses on providing on-site solar electric power systems for commercial and industrial clients, as well as developing larger, utility-scale solar power plants in the southwestern United States.

Mr. Turner will receive the Spirit of Achievement Award from the National Center for Learning Disabilities, April 10, 2008. This award will be given in recognition for his commitment to education and creating better opportunities for all children. The benefit dinner will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis.
