If your child has learning disabilities, you are going to need help from your child's school and the school is going to need help from you. It is in everyone's best interest and especially your child's when parents and school professionals work together in a constructive way.

It is true that many parents have found the special education process to be complicated, frustrating, and overwhelming at times. Yet successful collaboration with the school has the potential to provide valuable educational services for your child. Under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), every child is entitled to a free appropriate public education. While it is up to the school to provide that education, it is often up to the parent to make sure the child receives the support appropriate for his or her particular needs.

To help guide you on your path towards establishing and maintaining positive interactions with the teachers and administrators at your child's school, NCLD has created the below valuable resources.

In addition, be sure to visit the new NCLD Parent Center.  NCLD's new Parent Center offers comprehensive parenting resources in an environment that promotes information and understanding.  You'll find that NCLD's Parent Center is a safe place to ask questions and share experiences with parents who often times face the same situations as you and your family.
