Internship Opportunities

The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) works to ensure that the nation's 15 million children, adolescents, and adults with learning disabilities have every opportunity to succeed in school, work, and life. NCLD provides essential information to parents, professionals, and individuals with learning disabilities, promotes research and programs to foster effective learning, and advocates for policies to protect and strengthen educational rights and opportunities.

NCLD offers internship opportunities to high school and college students throughout the calendar year. Internship applications are welcome at any time, and candidates are carefully selected based on personal recommendations, the skills they bring , their level of interest and commitment to NCLD’s mission, and when possible, a face-to-face interview.

Projects and work assignments can often be tailored to accommodate the skills and interests of interns, and all interns maintain close working and supervisory relationships with key members of the NCLD team. Examples of work assignments include:

  • Online research contributing to the development or expansion of NCLD informational products and services
  • Communications and outreach to constituents and partner organizations
  • NCLD’s Awards and Scholarship programs
  • Maintenance and expansion of NCLD’s informational and resource databases

Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills including Word and Excel
  • Strong writing skills
  • Web research skills
  • Flexible, independent work style and positive attitude

Enrollment in or completion of:

  • A high school diploma program
  • Bachelor level program
  • Masters level program
  • Doctoral level program

The internship typically extends for a period of one semester or three months and can extend throughout the calendar year.  Internships require a commitment of no fewer than 10 hours per week.  NCLD staff will provide ongoing supervision of work effort and product.  Letters of recommendation, evaluations, feedback and documentation of internship completion will be provided as needed.  A stipend is offered for travel reimbursement.
