Forum on Early Literacy Screening to Promote School Success
On February 23, NCLD will convene a Forum on Early Literacy Screening in Washington,   DC. The forum will bring together experts and leaders in the early childhood,   early transition, policy and research communities. The goal        of the forum is to articulate the   current state of early literacy screening, link research knowledge to policy, and   define ways to strengthen ties between research, policy and practice.

Using Auditory Processing Strategies to Address Behavior Problems
A new study from Australia suggests that auditory processing strategies can address both literacy and behavior problems in at-risk students. The study finds that screening student auditory processing abilities can help identify students at risk for lower literacy and inattentive behaviors, which allows for the application of early intervention strategies.

Calling All LD Artists and Poets Ages 4 -18
National Center for Learning Disabilities' Art & Poetry Contest
Entries due February 15, 2005
Every year the National Center for Learning Disabilities conducts a national art and poetry competition, which is highlighted at our annual NCLD Benefit, Voices of Our Children, Voices of our Future.    A first-place prize of $100 and two second prizes of $50 will be awarded to the winning schools in each category.  All winners will be publicly acknowledged on NCLD's award winning Web site, www.LD.org, and at the benefit on April 21, 2005 in New York City. This year's theme is HEAR ME OUT; NCLD is asking all our contestants to artistically interpret the following:
