Dear Friends of NCLD:
In this month's edition of LD News we launch the Research Roundup column by
Dr. Sheldon H. Horowitz, NCLD's director of professional services. Appearing regularly, the column will summarize and provide links to information on research projects underway throughout the special education community.
Research in learning disabilities over the past several decades has helped change the way children are identified, instructed, assessed, and supported in the nation's schools. Outstanding research has not only driven better practices in the classroom, it has also informed better policies at the federal, state and local levels. Research now underway will help provide solutions for children over the next decade"and we want you to know what is being studied and how it might help real kids in real classrooms.
In this issue, we also welcome
Dr. Donald Deshler, vice chairman of NCLD's Professional Advisory Board and co-director of the National Center for Research on Learning Disabilities. Dr. Deshler
talks about current research on the practices used to identify children with LD and how these studies may eventually affect you or your child.
