LD News: News You Can Use
Letter from NCLD
Dear Friends of NCLD:
The experience of preparing a son or daughter for college is one of the biggest challenges parents can face, especially if the child has learning disabilities. While going off to college is a tremendous step forward in any young person's life, for a young person with LD the concerns are even greater, particularly concerns over high-stakes tests such as the SAT.
To help those of our readers who may be about to take the SAT or any of the other standardized tests needed for college admission, we offer this issue of LD News. We've included a first-person account of test taking from a student with LD and an interview with Paula Kuebler, Executive Director of Services for Students with Disabilities at the College Board. Ms. Kuebler provides an overview of many facets of the SAT and how the test impacts students with learning disabilities, including a discussion of the accommodations the College Board offers test takers. She also discusses the new essay section that will be included in the SAT starting in 2005.
We hope this issue of LD News will provide you with important, useful information regarding college admissions tests. For more information on accommodations for test takers with learning disabilities, visit the "Living with LD" section of our Web site by clicking here or contact us directly with your questions, either by email or phone.
