Letter from NCLD (LD News: April 2006) Dear NCLD Supporters and Constituents:
NCLD is proud to announce an exciting event this month. On April 25th NCLD will launch a new section of LD.org exclusively devoted to parents of children with LD. The site provides parents with essential advocacy information on important topics such as high-stakes testing and transition to college, numerous articles on issues such as reading, social and emotional challenges and progress monitoring, and first hand stories (both in audio clip and written text formats) and tips from fellow parents who have effectively navigated the special education process. Visit our Online Parent Center and see for yourself how truly wonderful this new resource is. And later this month, on April 26th, NCLD will hold a truly special event, our 29th Annual Benefit Dinner -- Voices of Our Children, Voices of Our Future. On that evening we are proud to honor Dana Buchman, Fashion Designer, who will receive the Children's Advocacy Award; Alfred R. Kahn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, 4Kids Entertainment, who will receive the Spirit of Achievement Award; and G. Reid Lyon, Ph.D., Executive Vice President for Research and Evaluation at Best Associates and Whitney University, who will receive the Distinguished Education Achievement Award. Our annual Benefit spotlights the success of individuals with learning disabilities and is attended by more than 500 corporate and civic leaders. It is the nation's single largest fundraising event in support of children, adolescents and adults with learning disabilities. The proceeds from the Benefit will help NCLD expand and improve our education and advocacy programs, which are making a measurable difference in helping individuals with learning disabilities succeed in school, work and life.
