National Board Teachers No Better Than Other Educators
A long-awaited study using North Carolina data concludes that students of teachers who hold certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards achieve, on average, no greater academic progress than students of teachers without the special status.

NCES to Release 2006 Condition of Education
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is planning to release the congressionally mandated report on June 1. IES Director Russ Whitehurst and NCES Commissioner Mark Schneider will present findings from the report at an event at the Charles Sumner School in Washington. "U.S. Student and Adult Performance on International Assessments of Educational Achievement" is the topic of this year's special analysis on The Condition of Education website.

Teaching at Risk: Progress and Potholes
The Teaching Commission recently released a final report urging state and local leaders to go "far further, far faster" in transforming the teaching profession. The report, "Teaching at Risk: Progress and Potholes," cites significant progress since 2003, but, demonstrates the consistent challenge state, local and federal leaders demonstrate on four key issues; transforming teacher compensation, reinventing teacher preparation, overhauling licensing and certification and strengthening leadership and support.

National Report on High School Reform

Annual Report: Year 4 of the No Child Left Behind Act
According to a new report by the Center on Education Policy (CEP), The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is having a greater impact on the everyday activities of schools and districts.  CEP is tracking federal, state and local implementation of the law. This report, "From the Capital to the Classroom: Year 4 of the No Child Left Behind Act," is the fourth in a series of annual reports to be issued through 2008 by CEP, and offers a long-term look at how the law’s implementation is affecting states and school districts.
