By Candace Cortiella, Director - The Advocacy Institute

Testing For Disabilities - High Stakes Assessment Students with learning disabilities (LD) need to have every opportunity to pass "high-stakes" tests with their classmates. The rapidly growing use of assessments to make important decisions about individual students is of particular concern to parents of students with LD.

The use of a student's performance on a single assessment (or test) can pose serious obstacles with major consequences for your student with LD, including increases in grade retention, drop-out and the awarding of alternative types of diplomas that will limit your child's opportunities after high school.

This Parent Advocacy Brief outlines for parents the major issues, the most common obstacles, and provides a checklist so you can help your student stay on course for the future.
