Get Ready to Read! (GRTR!), is NCLD's national initiative that seeks to build the early literacy skills of preschool-age children by providing parents, educators, health-care professional and advocates with literacy screening and learning activities as part of early childhood education, child-care, and parenting practices.
The Get Ready to Read! website features an array of tools, activities, and information, including:
- An easy-to-administer, research-based screening tool (in English and Spanish)
- Downloadable literacy activity cards (in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Korean)
- Online games
- A "transition to kindergarten" toolkit
Also available is the Early Learning & Literacy Newsletter, a free, monthly email newsletter that highlights activities and resources of interest to parents, early childhood educators, and child care professionals, based on NCLD's Get Ready to Read! program.
