We hear it from our community all the time. I may have trouble reading, but I’m really good at _______. Or, I’m no math whiz, but I’m a superstar at _______. And how about, I have a lot of trouble organizing information in my brain…wouldn't it be amazing if I could _______? There’s no question that individuals with learning disabilities (LD) face unique challenges, and they often discover unique strengths that help them work around those challenges.
For this year’s NCLD Art Competition, we asked the artists of our community to create a superhero or a superpower that embodies their strengths in overcoming LD. The contestants completely blew us away with the concepts they created. In fact, the artwork was so impressive, we just had to share it with the rest of the NCLD community.
Everyday, we’ll be posting new submissions from children, teens and adults. And each week, the art we feature will all revolve around a given theme—and the great minds of our artists have surely resulted in some interesting themes, including animals, the power of super-speed, and individuality. Wondering how our artists will take on the LD superpowers question while using these alluring themes? You’ll just have to come back to LD.org each day to check out the art and find out.
We’re giving away $1,500 in prize money to our artists and have a tough decision on our hands. Will we select your favorite submission? Stay tuned to find out!
