Digital Learning and Students with LD: Celebrate Innovative Teaching and Learning on February 6th

Digital Learning and Students with LDDigital media and technology have changed the way students experience school. New, innovative teaching methods creatively integrate technology into the classroom and engage students with rich, personalized educational experiences. Now, you have the chance to learn more about the best uses of these methods in a one-day, interactive experience. The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) has joined the Alliance for Excellent Education (AEE) as a core partner for the second annual Digital Learning Day, being held on February 6th, 2013. The day will highlight and celebrate successful education models, great teaching practice, and effective uses of technology that improve learning for all students. If you’ve ever wondered if digital learning might hold promise for your child with LD, you won’t want to miss the exciting events taking place on Digital Learning Day.

Digital learning is especially important for students with LD because it offers opportunities to make lessons more individualized by offering real-time supports, accommodations, and reinforcement as students move through lessons. Assistive technology has opened the doors for many students with LD to truly access grade-level content, and new innovations like mobile apps are important tools for people with LDs like dyslexia and dysgraphia. New educational technologies are being developed and improved all the time, and this is your chance to learn what’s on the cutting edge—and prepare to advocate for the best inclusion of technology in your child’s school and IEP or 504 plan.

There are many ways parents can get involved in Digital Learning Day. Festivities celebrating the day will be happening in Washington, DC, online, and perhaps even in a town near you!

You’ll want to make sure to participate in the town hall meeting on February 6, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (EST). This event will be simulcast from the national celebration in Washington, DC and features top government, education, and corporate leaders demonstrating how digital learning and technology can help transform America’s schools. Register for this free web event today!

We hope that you will join NCLD on February 6th to learn how other schools across the country are using digital learning. And don’t keep this invitation to yourself--encourage your child’s school to join in too! Post a comment to let us know about any events your school is planning for Digital Learning Day or any exciting ways that your school or family is using technology to make a difference for your child.
