We Cannot Support The Bill At This Time



Today, NCLD joined leading civil rights, business groups and leading advocates in voicing the inability to support the Elementary and Secondary Education Act reauthorization bill being considered by the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in its current form.  We joined the National Council of La Raza, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the Disability Rights Education Defense Fund and other leading organizations in expressing concern over the bill's lack of sufficient accountability for students with disabilities.

In addition, NCLD also sent their own letter to HELP Committee Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Ranking Member  Mike Enzi (R-WY) stating that we could not support the bill in its current form.  Our letter specifically highlighted the bill's lack of accountability for the achievement of all students in all schools, including students with disabilities.
