New York Jets Quarterback Tim Tebow is one of football’s most popular players. But Tebow’s struggles in the classroom have presented a major roadblock throughout his life. With the right supports, Tebow graduated from college with honors and went on to his star football career.  Now he’s playing on the Jets, where Coach Rex Ryan also has dyslexia. Tebow wants people to know that dyslexia does not mean that a person is not intelligent, and hopes that in going public with his dyslexia he will help young people with LD feel less insecure about the way that they learn. Children's Dyslexia Drives Mother to Find Aid (Arkansas Online)
When you’re the parent of a child with LD, it can be hard to find support. But two Arkansas mothers faced this problem and took the solution into their own hands. Kim Head and Melanie Malone are both mothers of children with dyslexia, and have both been instrumental in creating “The Dyslexia Project,” a local group that provides information, support, and tutoring for students with dyslexia. Packers Assistant Coach Takes on Dyslexia (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel)
Joe Whitt, Jr. has made a name for himself in the National Football League as an assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers. Crowds who see him speak might never know that behind the scenes, dyslexia is a persistent struggle in his life. It made school difficult and even painful at times, but football was an outlet for his talents. Even though Whitt still struggles with reading, he has made it his mission to encourage literacy—he’s heading up a national summer reading campaign for young people.
