Claudia Rinaldi, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Education and Program Director at Lasell College in Newton, MA. Her research addresses the implementation of Response to Intervention (RTI) and Multi-Tier System of Support (MTSS) in urban settings, and on addressing the challenge between language difference and learning disability in bilingual students. Claudia provides consultation nationally for professional organizations, schools and districts on MTSS, reading for struggling learners, and bilingual special education across all bilingual educational programming. Her experience engages educators on improving systems and instructional practices for students with learning issues and those who are learning English and may have a mild and moderate disability.
Claudia has several peer-reviewed publications, webinars, and media interviews, She also has a published a book for educators calledPractical Ways to Engage All Struggling Readers and has co-authored the RTI-Based Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) Identification Toolkit for Educators: Consideration for English Language Learners for the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) RTI Network(www.rtinetwork.org). She recently led the development of a graduate-level certificate in Teaching Bilingual English Learners with Disabilities at Lasell College (www.lasell.edu/ell) to address the critical need for educators working with a growing diverse population of students learning English who also experience academic challenges.
Claudia serves as a member of the Professional Advisory Board for NCLD and conducts online parent webinars in Spanish for Understood.org. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors for the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and now is the Co-Chair for the CEC Conference which hosts over 5,000 educators from around the world and organizes over 600+ professional development sessions. Claudia serves as a member of the National Center for Intensive Interventions Technical Review Committee (TRC) housed at AIR and previously for the National Center on Response to Intervention (Grant H326E070004) Technical Review Committee (TRC) on Tiered Instruction for the Office of Special Education Programs, Department of Education, Washington, D.C.
