Position Overview

The National Center for Learning Disabilities is hiring an Associate Director of Marketing to join the Understood team. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on multi-disciplinary marketing professional that can partner with the Director of Marketing to advance audience awareness and engagement in order to create a nation where all kids can thrive in school and life.

The Associate Director of Marketing will lead key strategies and oversee implementation across channels as the Understood marketing team translates organizational goals to communication strategy and execution across paid, owned and earned media channels to advance NCLD’s mission and annual goals.

  • Increase unique monthly visits to Understood.org
  • Increase resources viewed on Understood.org
  • Advance Understood audience engagement beyond content to sign-ups for email, community and events and to donations (both online and offline)
  • Expand awareness of and familiarity with learning and attention issues on a national level during key times of year, including Back-to-School (End July-August) and Learning Disabilities Awareness Month (October)
  • Ensure communication efficiency and effectiveness

Responsibilities

  • Marketing team oversight (35% of role)
    • Partner with the Director of Marketing to lead channel managers in rigorous strategy development and day-to-day planning optimization to meet quarterly objectives- leveraging insights generated from audience data, past performance and industry best practice across:
      • Paid media: Digital advertising (SEM & Social media)
      • Owned media: Email marketing, on-site marketing and social content
      • Earned media: Traditional, digital & social media, partnerships, influencers and events
    • Uphold high communication standards across the team to ensure our visual and verbal messages remain on-brand and compelling
    • Provide best practice reporting and presentation direction to team members
  • Tent-pole campaign planning & project management (35% of capacity)
    • Lead cross-team plans for Back-to-School (focus: parents) and Awareness Month (focus: all audiences) campaigns to connect each target audience to the relevant Understood or NCLD program message
      • Serve as the campaign liaison with NCLD executives
      • Develop plan to improve performance across tactics versus 2017
      • Serve as project manager to ensure each campaign stays on budget and meets key milestones within the planning and launch timeline
      • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support best practice and strong tactical execution, from briefing stage through launch
      • Ensure cross-team adoption of key messages and assets
      • Monitor performance and provide regular reporting
  • Ad Council relationship management (20% of role)
    • Co-lead day-to-day Ad Council relationship alongside Director of Marketing
      • Collaborate on mass media advertising strategy and rollout
      • Lead multiple tactics, advising on execution and approving final assets
      • Participate in weekly status calls and other administrative tasks
  • Administrative (10% of role)
    • Support the development of brand management tools that will enable consistent brand communications by cross functional teams throughout the organization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant marketing experience
  • Multi-disciplinary marketing experience, with an emphasis on digital (brand and performance marketing) communications
  • Knowledge of technical brand management, integrated marketing and media communications planning skillsets
  • Client and agency background preferred
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Acute attention to detail and dedication to quality assurance and follow-through
  • Quantitative and qualitative analytical strength
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborative, with individuals and cross-functional teams, within a fast-growing non-profit organization
  • Ability to effectively manage and coach team members
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to easily adapt to change
  • Strong work ethic and high standards of excellence
  • Passion and commitment to NCLD’s mission- Prior knowledge of learning and attention issues is not required, but a willingness to learn is essential
