Robert T. Stephens

Senior Manager, Federal Relations

Prior to joining NCLD, Robert was a staffer for Congressman John Lewis. He has dedicated his career to closing the opportunity gap for students. He spent two years teaching special education in Charlotte, NC. After teaching, he moved to Washington, DC to pursue a Master of Public Policy degree from George Mason University. After graduating, he joined the staff of Teach For America and served as the Manager of Community Partnerships and the Director of Alumni Teacher Leadership.

In addition to his experience in education, Robert has campaign and political organizing experience, having been a candidate for City Council in Durham, North Carolina and working in North Carolina for Organizing for America as a Field Organizer.

Robert earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Winston-Salem State University.
