Over the past 10 years, Kate has been actively involved in assisting parents in navigating the complex special education and children’s mental health systems in Minnesota. Her expertise lies in providing training and support to educators and school staff, focusing on promoting emotional regulation, reducing challenging behavior, and designing neurodivergent and trauma-responsive Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Prior to joining NCLD, Kate worked with Minnesota’s Department of Human Services in a role that emphasized enhancing communication and outreach directly with people living with disabilities and their families, underscoring her commitment to fostering inclusivity and support.

Kate holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is also a published children’s book author, showcasing her multifaceted talents and dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Her passion for NCLD’s mission is deeply rooted in her previous experiences supporting students and families within the special education system, as well as her personal experiences as a parent of a neurodivergent child and being neurodivergent herself. This firsthand perspective further fuels her commitment to advocating for individuals with learning disabilities and attention issues.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Kate finds joy in activities such as swimming, long walks with her puppy, and cherished moments spent at home with her family. These pursuits provide her with a well-rounded and balanced approach to life.

Kate’s dedication, expertise, and personal experiences contribute significantly to the organization’s mission of supporting and empowering individuals with learning disabilities and attention issues. Her unique insights and passion drive her efforts to create positive change and foster an inclusive environment for all.
